Reiki is a healing art practice developed in the early 1900s in Japan. Meaning "Universal Life Energy", Reiki is a subtle and effective method of energy healing that is used to ease tension and stress, reduce blockages in the body, and bring about physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing. It can be hands-on or hands-off, depending on the needs of the individual, and can also be practiced from a distance.

This complementary practice was especially helpful following my brain tumor removal surgery in 2014. I had residual pain and fogginess from the incision where the brain tumor was and didn't feel like myself. Thankfully, after just one visit with a Reiki practitioner, the pain and fogginess I felt went away. This powerful practice is used to improve personal well-being and is not affiliated with any religion. I have practiced Reiki on hundreds of individuals dealing with various health ailments as a complement to Western medicine in a hospital setting and have seen the benefits firsthand.

You can use Reiki at any time and has been found especially helpful for individuals wanting relief from:

  • Colds/Flu

  • Pain

  • Inflammation

  • Emotional experiences

  • Stress

  • Headaches

  • Tension

  • Chronic illnesses and diseases, such as cancer or diabetes

People have different experiences during a Reiki session. Some feel heat or warmth on certain areas of the body while others feel sensations, strong emotions, see colors, or feel nothing at all. Overall, individuals report feeling calm and relaxed following each session. We cannot always explain the effects, but it is important to trust that the body knows what it needs for healing and relief.

I currently offer virtual Reiki sessions and teach virtual Reiki Level I and Level II classes for Four Directions Wellness, which is affiliated with the GW Center for Integrative Medicine.
